When you donate to First Literacy, you help fund innovative classes and programs that give thousands of adult learners the necessary tools to achieve their goals and support their families. You help graduates from Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HiSET), and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programs get the financial and educational support they need to pursue a college degree or advanced skills training. You help create professional development opportunities for the staff and teachers of ABE and ESOL programs so that they can share and incorporate best practices to improve their programs and their own teaching skills.

Friends of First Literacy
Anyone who makes a donation to First Literacy is invited to join us for events such as our Scholarship Ceremony, Corporate Spelling Bee, and author readings.
Phillis Wheatley Society
Phillis Wheatley was an inspiring African American woman who transcended the social boundaries of her time through the power of the written word. Each spring First Literacy celebrates and thanks donors who have given a gift of $1,000 or more at a special reception. These donors help continue Phillis Wheatley’s legacy by supporting the efforts to give others the power to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Corporate Matching Funds
Make your dollars go further! Many corporations match all charitable donations made by their employees. If your employer is on our list of local and national organizations with matching funds contact your Human Resources department for details.
