First Literacy is pleased to announce the appointment of four distinguished professionals to its Board of Directors: Tony da Silva, Barbara Garner, Lee Kenyon, and Jenna Kline. These new members bring a wealth of expertise and dedication to advancing adult literacy across Massachusetts.

Tony da Silva is a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley. With extensive experience in business management and leadership, Tony brings strategic insight that will support First Literacy’s mission of fostering lifelong learning and educational advancement.

“First Literacy’s mission hits home with me on a personal level and I’m thrilled to join their Board and serve our communities through helping their outstanding team create educational opportunities for adult learners and educators across Massachusetts,” said Tony.

Barbara Garner joins the Board after an accomplished career dedicated to education and workforce development. A former leader at Jewish Vocational Service (2013-2019) and the Education Development Center (2005-2013), Barbara has been a steadfast supporter of First Literacy since its founding as the Boston Adult Literacy Fund in 1988. She has also served on the First Literacy’s Community Advisory Council.

“I have supported First Literacy since its inception as the Boston Adult Literacy Fund in 1988 and have watched it evolve and serve the field of adult literacy ever since. I am proud to bring my expertise to the board and look forward to contributing in whatever way I can,” said Barbara.

Lee Kenyon, a retired Director of Data Governance, Portfolio Manager, and Vice President at Eaton Vance Management, brings deep experience in financial management and data strategy. Passionate about education, Lee is eager to support First Literacy’s work.

“I am honored and pleased to join the Board in support of First Literacy’s mission to help adults thrive in Massachusetts. Adult literacy is a key to independence and success, and the programs funded by First Literacy help many people achieve those goals,” said Lee.

Jenna Kline, Senior Manager at T. Rowe Price, has been actively involved with First Literacy in various capacities for over six years and most recently as Chair of the First Literacy Associate Board. With a strong commitment to community engagement and literacy advocacy, Jenna is eager to contribute to the organization’s strategic direction.

“I am excited to be serving on the Board of First Literacy because it is an organization I believe in and have been part of in varying roles for over six years. I’m looking forward to contributing meaningfully to the strategic direction and impacting adult literacy,” said Jenna.

These new Board members join an esteemed group of leaders dedicated to improving adult literacy across Massachusetts.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tony, Barbara, Lee, and Jenna to the First Literacy Board of Directors,” said Terry Witherell, Executive Director of First Literacy. “Each of them brings a unique perspective and a shared passion for empowering adult learners. Their leadership will strengthen our mission and expand our impact.”
