Michaela has faced many hardships throughout her life, including an abusive relationship and homelessness. Through these difficult times Michaela persevered, determined to create a better life for herself and her two sons.

Her time in a domestic violence shelter was a turning point in her life, where she built strong bonds with her fellow residents and staff. Michaela’s desire to support and advocate for others led her to pursue a career in social work. She obtained her GED, enrolled in college, and now embraces the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

Michaela’s passion for social work stems from her genuine desire to help others and her own experiences of overcoming obstacles. With her determination, compassionate spirit, and the support of a First Literacy scholarship she is ready to embark on a journey of transforming lives, making a positive impact on her community, and setting an example for her sons.
