Rodieka grew up in Jamacia. As the oldest of four siblings raised by a single mother, life was not easy growing up, but her mother’s teachings about the value of education has always been her guiding light.
With an impressive academic journey in Jamaica, Rodieka pursued a Bachelor’s degree in English with the goal of becoming a college professor. However, her path took a turn when she got pregnant with her daughter and decided to move to the United States. Moving to the U.S. was bittersweet. She knew she would have more opportunities for herself and her daughter, but due to her immigration status she was forced to start her education from the beginning.
Determined to achieve her dream of becoming an orthopedic surgeon Rodieka joined the Bridge to College program. Balancing school with the challenges of being a new mother, she faces difficulties but refuses to give up.
With her sights set on a degree in medicine Rodieka plans to pursue an associate degree in biology at Bunker Hill Community College and then work towards her bachelor’s degree at a four-year college. She aims to be a positive role model for her sisters and daughter, proving that anything is possible with determination and hard work.
