Vu arrived in the United States from Vietnam in August 2014 with his wife, son, and daughter. He studied English at St. Mark’s Community Education Center and immediately enrolled in courses at Bunker Hill Community College, but it was difficult to study while working on assembly lines and driving for Uber and Lyft. As a musician, he decided to teach music lessons from his home on weekends so he can attend college classes during the week, study at night, and be available for his children while his wife works. Vu will continue his business courses this fall at Bunker Hill. He believes that if he expects his children to pursue a college education, he should provide the example.
