First Literacy Scholar: Christele

Christele packed her bags and traveled from Haiti to the United States with the intention of staying for 2 weeks. She came to the U.S. to get away from the dangers and stress disrupting her life in Haiti. The two weeks turned permanent when she realized it was unsafe to return to Haiti. She made the decision to stay in the United States as she knew she would have more opportunities and it would be better for her mental health. The downside was that she had to begin school all over again. Determined to achieve her goals and set a good example for her younger sister Christele is now studying Integrated Media Design at Bunker Hill Community College. Her goal is to work as a marketing manager.
