Dora graduated from high school in Guatemala and earned a degree in elementary education, but when she arrived in the US with no English language skills, it was as if she had no schooling at all. Her son, then 19 and going to college himself, encouraged her to go back to school since he could work and help support the family. Unfortunately, in 2017 her son fell ill and was hospitalized. Though Dora needed to work and care for him she managed to complete the year on Bunker Hill’s Merit List for high achievement. She is on track to earn her Certificate in Early Childhood Education in 2019. Her goal is to become a Teacher’s Assistant.
