When Nicolás arrived in the United States, he was determined to build a better life for himself and his family. He knew very little English, but through the support of the teachers and instructors from his ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program he grew more confident in his abilities to succeed and communicate in English. While he has found success working full-time at a pharmaceutical company, his dream is to become an engineer. The scholarship from First Literacy will allow Nicolás to focus on his studies at Berkshire Community College without the stress of worrying about how to pay for school.
