BOSTON, MA – First Literacy is pleased to announce the appointment of three members to the board of directors: Karime Abdel-Hay, Rudy Bozas, and Amanda MacKenzie.

Karime Abdel-Hay is a Partner/Principal, Advisory at KPMG US. Karime recently moved to Boston from Toronto, Canada, where he previously served on the board for a non-profit organization focused on delivering employment, newcomer, language, and youth services to help people achieve their full potential through career development, language education, and settlement services.

“It is a great honor and privilege to have the opportunity to serve and to support First Literacy’s mission to provide high-quality literacy programming to underserved communities, promote adult training and education, and foster lifelong learning,” said Karime. “I look forward to working with the First Literacy team to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve.”

Rudy Bozas is Director of Marketing and Communications at Tufts Health Plan/Point32Health. Rudy is first generation born in the U.S. and is passionate about helping others. His multicultural background and focus on health literacy will be an asset to the First Literacy Board.

“I’m very thankful as I reflect on the privilege of joining the esteemed board at First Literacy,” said Rudy. “I am humbled by the opportunity to contribute my expertise and collaborate with brilliant minds to support adults with low literacy, and the immigrant communities that work to gain proficiency in English as a second language. Together, I aspire to drive positive change, and help shape an even brighter future.”

Amanda MacKenzie is Assurance Director in the Northeast Health Industries Practice for PwC. Amanda’s experience working with life sciences and technology companies, including multinational public companies, healthcare providers and development stage companies will open doors to new partnerships for First Literacy.

“I am honored to join First Literacy as a board member,” said Amanda. “I am eager to serve as an ambassador and support the good work First Literacy is doing to help adult learners and adult educators throughout Massachusetts.”

Karime, Rudy, and Amanda joined the First Literacy Board effective July 1, 2023, and will serve alongside fourteen additional members of the board.

“We’re excited to expand our board with three new members who will bring diverse expertise and insights to our work,” said Terry Witherell, Executive Director of First Literacy.
