Welcoming Our New Executive Director

First Literacy is delighted to announce its new Executive Director, Terry Witherell. Terry brings over 25 years of experience in leadership, fundraising, and organizational management.

Terry joins First Literacy after serving as the Senior Director of Mission for Catholic Extension, a national organization that supports the poorer communities in the United States. During her time in this position she worked closely with immigrant families, advocating for them and helping them connect with essential resources. Earlier in her career, Terry worked at Boston College as Associate Director of the Career Center. She also served as a teacher and youth minister.

Her experience in higher education and career services will give her valuable insight into First Literacy’s scholarship and professional development initiatives. Terry understands the critical importance of education and its role in changing lives.

“I’ve had the chance to work with a number of marginalized communities. I’ve seen firsthand the need for education, in order to level the playing field,” said Terry. “When I worked in New York with homeless young adults, we worked tirelessly to connect them with the education they needed, in order to better their situation. I look forward to impacting more lives through the power of education.”
