As technology continues to evolve, digital literacy is no longer limited to basic computer skills. Today, it also includes understanding how to interact with artificial intelligence tools, evaluate online information, and adapt to rapidly changing digital environments. For adult learners, this shift can feel both exciting and overwhelming.
On Thursday, March 26, twenty teams battled it out in the First Literacy Spelling Bee at J.P. Morgan, spelling words that stumped even the savviest spellers. Teams were tasked with spelling words such as “couture” and “meringue”.
On March 26, at First Literacy’s 36th annual Spelling Bee, Margarheeta Wise, President of MFS Service Center, will receive the “First Literacy Champion Award”. This award is being given in gratitude to Wise, a longtime supporter of First Literacy.
Luis moved to Boston in search of an opportunity to learn English and pursue a degree. He took English courses at Maverick Landing Community Services and secured an IT internship with Catholic Charities. Through these programs he learned about First Literacy, which allowed him to help fund his education.
First Literacy is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a $72,421 grant from the Neighborhood Jobs Trust. The grant will enable First Literacy to continue to offer critical financial and academic support to adult learners living in Boston.
