Presenter: Brooke Machado & Medhin Gebreslasse

This workshop covers practical classroom routines that have successfully worked with adult emergent readers in the Adult Basic Education (ABE) classroom. The workshop materials include strategies that engage adult students’ curiosity and interest in books, routines that make reading part of every class, and technology tools to scaffold reading for reluctant, low-level, or disengaged students. The strategies and ideas presented in this workshop are adaptable for use in both the ESOL and ABE classrooms with English-learning and native English-speaking students.
